I think that the Salvation Army had a Citadel where the Museum now is? That would place this in High St if I am correct?

It was the High Street. It is my Great Grandad's shop. He owned a monkey which he bought in Harrods and kept in the back yard. One day it got loose and ran riot through the Salvation Army's afternoon tea. The other shop was in Twyford Road.
