This photo was taken during construction of the Chandlers Ford/Otterbourne bypass (now M3) circa 1967. It appears to have been taken from or close to, the bridge crossing Leigh Rd.
Oakmount Rd. can be seen on the left, and the houses are in Steele Close, which had been recently built to serve the new fire and ambulance stations. (Is that an ambulance behind the trees?)
Incidentally, the large house that can be seen, still exists on the corner of Oakmount Ave. I believe that at that time it was occupied by a Mr Idwal Rees who had owned a chemists shop in High St which later became Hazells, and I think is now a computer shop.
