More info on workhouse / Leigh House
It was originally built to replace the old Hursley workhouse. However, due to decreased demand for Poor Law relief, it was leased to Hampshire County Council as a sanatorium for Tuberculosis patients, taking up to forty. It was later a psychiatric unit for adolescents.
The building was on land between Cuckoo Bushes Lane & Common Road, just off of Hursley Road. It was demolished in 2002.
