PROGRAMME OF EVENTS FOR 2017/2018

We will now have a regular meeting on the second Monday of each month. These will usually start at 7.30 pm at the Age Concern Hall in Romsey Road but, please, watch this space as we may need to move as a result of changes at the hall.

12 February 2018 at 7.30 pm
There will be a talk on Eastleigh 1917 – that was the year that was – 100 years ago
The Age Concern Hall is still available and so the talk will be in our usual location at 20 Romsey Road.

8 January 2018
There will not be a meeting in January 2018.

11 December 2017
Eastleigh & District Local History Society invites you to our Christmas event, a fun and interactive quiz presented by Society member, Barry Chinchen with festive refreshments. .As usual, the event will be in the Age Concern Hall and will be free for members but there will be a charge of £2 for non-members.

13 November 2017
There will be an illustrated talk on Southamton’s role in the D Day Landings. This will be presented by Don Robertson who is a qualified Southampton guide. The talk will be, as usual, in the Age Concern Hall in Romsey Road.

There will be a viewing of talking pictures, as shown in Eastleigh in November 1914, presented by Barry Chinchen. This will be, as usual, in the Age Concern Hall in Romsey Road.

There will be a talk by Phoebe Merrick on the WW1 Romsey Remount Centre.

There will be a guided walk on the history of Chandler's Ford. We will meet at Chandlers Ford station at 7pm..

12 June 2017
There will be a talk given by Andy Skinner who is a public historian and speaker based in Southampton. More details are given on his web site
His talk on 12 June will be Albert's Wartime Diaries This is about Albert Dartnell's diaries which chronice his World War 1 years as an RAMC orderly serving on Southampton's Ambulance Trains and Hospital Ships. Please see Andy Skinner's web site for more details.
The meeting will be in the Age Concern Hall in Romsey Road again.

Talk by the Nigel Kearns of the Railway Preservation Society
The restoration and operation of the Eastleigh built Locomotive No *50 "Lord Nelson".
This will be in the Age Concern Hall in Romsey Road at 7.30pm. Admission will be free for Society members but, to help cover costs, there will be a charge of £2 for non-members.
